Scene 6 The patient

The scene takes place in the waiting room of the diabetic clinic immediately after the consultation.

While watching the video, you will find it helpful to note examples of:

• • how the patient’s non-verbal communication (body language) is different from that in Scenes 2 and 4;
• • the patient’s expectations as a result of the consultation;
• • the patient’s attitude towards seeing the dietitian again.

Some points to consider

• • How are you feeling towards the patient?
• • What do you want to say to her?
• • What needs do you think the patient had? Were these recognised by the dietitian?
• • How satisfied was the patient after the interview?
• • How much do you think this was due to the approach used by the dietitian?
