Case 5: A Patient with Loss of Leg Control
CASE
A 55‐year‐old lorry driver notices that during a long journey he is having difficulty with the foot controls on his vehicle. At a convenient moment he stops and gets out of his cab and immediately his legs give way. He is aware of a sharp ache in the back. On admission to hospital he is found to have a flaccid paralysis of the legs, absent tendon reflexes and loss of sensation to the lower abdomen. However, joint position sense and vibration sense are preserved.
