Case 6: A man with Prostate Cancer
CASE
A 67‐year‐old man was admitted to a hospice the preceding night. He has prostate cancer, and complains of pains in his back and legs. He usually gets up early to walk his dog but has not done it for the past few days, and on the day of admission he seemed a little confused. He complains of a dry mouth and has been drinking more than usual recently. The blood tests on admission show Hb 10.0 g/dL, MCV 85 fL, corrected calcium 2.9 mmol/L and glucose 5.9 mmol/L. A doctor had started him on morphine for his back pain a few days ago.
