Case 16: A Patient with a Rapidly Enlarging Neck Lump
CASE
A 25‐year‐old man who has recently come to the UK from Zambia presents with a 2‐week history of a rapidly enlarging neck lump. He is also feeling tired and run down but with no other specific symptoms. On examination, he has a 5 × 6 cm neck lump in the right anterior triangle of the neck. It is also noticed that he is very thin and has oral Candidiasis. Cardiovascular, respiratory and abdominal examination are all normal. CT scan shows that in addition to the neck lump, he has a mass involving the terminal ileum.
Blood results come back as follows:
Hb 11.4 g/dL MCV 87 fL WBC 3.8 × 109/L Platelets 145 × 109/L
Urea and electrolytes, liver function tests, CRP: all normal
A lymphoma is suspected.
