Case 29: A Patient with Inflamed Tonsils
CASE
A 20‐year‐old student presented to A&E with a sore throat, malaise and muscle ache. His symptoms had been ongoing for 1 week. He had been given a 5‐day course of amoxicillin by his GP, however his symptoms persisted. A couple of his classmates had also had similar symptoms. On examination he was afebrile and haemodynamically stable. He had inflamed tonsils but no exudates, a moderately enlarged hepatosplenomegaly and cervical lymphadenopathy.
