Case 23: A Patient with Asthma and a Fever
CASE
A 35‐year‐old man has had poorly controlled asthma for the last year with repeated hospital admissions. He presented to hospital on this occasion with a fever and a cough with excessive mucous expectoration. He was unable to talk in complete sentences, was wheezy, had a heart rate (HR) of 115 beats/min, a respiratory rate (RR) of 30 breaths/min and an oxygen saturation of 92% on air; his arterial blood pressure was 90/60 mmHg. He had peripheral eosinophilia and his chest radiograph showed left upper zone consolidation and tramlines were noted on the left midzone.
