Case 5: A Young Man with Anxiety Attacks
CASE
A 30‐year‐old man has been attending the GP with anxiety attacks. On closer questioning these are typically associated with palpitations and sweating. During previous attendances no abnormality had been noticed on general examination. In particular, his BP was 110/70 mmHg and pulse 55 beats/min. On a third visit, however, he was noticed to be pale and sweaty with a BP of 180/120 mmHg and pulse 120 beats/min. He was referred with a possible diagnosis of phaeochromocytoma.
