Case 44: A Man with Abdominal Pain, Constipation and Vomiting
CASE
An 85‐year‐old man presents to your hospital with abdominal pain, distension, absolute constipation and vomiting. On examination he looks pale and dehydrated. Abdominal examination reveals abdominal distension with generalized tenderness and high‐pitched bowel sounds.
Blood tests showed:
Hb 11.1 g/dL WCC 16.4 × 109/L Platelets 189 × 109/L Na 148 mmol/L K 4.2 mmol/L Urea 28.4 mmol/L Creatinine 240 µmol/L
