Case 37: A Former Drug User on a Methadone Programme
CASE
A 28‐year‐old man is referred to the clinic by the local drug action team. He is now established on a methadone programme and has not used intravenous drugs for 6 months. He has never been jaundiced nor had any admissions to hospital. He has requested screening for blood‐borne viruses (BBV).
Blood tests showed:
Hb 13.4 g/dL WCC 4.2 × 109/L Platelets 320 × 109/L Na 142 mmol/L K 4.5 mmol/L Urea 4.2 mmol/L Creatinine 110 µmol/L Albumin 38 g/L Bilirubin 14 µmol/L ALP 110 U/L ALT 22 U/L HBsAg –ve HCV Ab +ve HIV Ab –ve
