Case 28: A Patient with Indigestion and Nausea
CASE
A 78‐year‐old man is referred with a 6‐week history of indigestion. This is present every day and situated above the umbilicus. Associated with this discomfort he has felt nauseated and has lost 4 kg in weight. In 1974 he had undergone surgery for peptic ulcer disease. Examination reveals some evidence of weight loss. Abdominal examination shows a midline upper abdominal scar but no masses and no organomegaly.
Blood tests showed:
Hb 11.7 g/dL WCC 4.3 × 109/L Platelets 379 × 109/L Na 136 mmol/L K 4.2 mmol/L Urea 6.7 mmol/L Creatinine 130 µmol/L
