Case 6: A Patient with Persistent Cough
CASE
A 50‐year‐old woman presents with a persistent productive cough for several months. The cough occurs in bouts often precipitated by a sore throat. She has never smoked, keeps no pets and has no previous history of chest disease. Physical examination is normal. A chest X‐ray and spirometry testing in the outpatient clinic are both normal.
