Respiratory disease
Case 10: A Patient with Cough and Limb Weakness
CASE
A 70‐year‐old male gives a 4‐day history of cough with green sputum and fever. He feels short of breath. He has no past medical history. However, on systems review he complains that his limbs feel weak and he has noticed his muscles appear wasted. A chest radiograph shows consolidation of the left lower lobe. Respiratory rate is 28 breaths/min and oxygen saturations 100% on high‐flow oxygen via a non‐rebreath mask with a reservoir bag. Fasciculation is noticed in the limbs. There is wasting, weakness, brisk reflexes and up‐going plantars.
