Case 8: A Patient with Progressive Confusion
CASE
A 52‐year‐old warehouseman was brought to A&E by his wife. He had been unwell for 10 days with difficulty concentrating, disturbed sleep and progressive confusion. He had also complained of feeling thirsty. He had lost around 5 kg in weight over the past month. His health had previously been good and he was taking no regular medications. He drank around 40 units of alcohol a week, although had drunk more heavily in the past, and had smoked 20 cigarettes daily for 30 years.
