Case 5: A Patient Who Has Taken A Drug Overdose
CASE
A 25‐year‐old man presents to A&E saying he has taken an overdose. He is well known to the department and to psychiatric services, as he often claims to have overdosed. In fact, he was here yesterday having taken a paracetamol overdose that did not require treatment. He is known to be a heavy drinker and is thought to have a personality disorder. He claims to have taken 20 paracetamol tablets. He lives alone, and brings his suicide note with him, saying he has now changed his mind.
