Case 17: A Patient with A Peanut Allergy
CASE
A 15‐year‐old boy attends his GP clinic to discuss his peanut allergy. As a child he was diagnosed with a nut allergy after several episodes of urticaria, angioedema, vomiting and wheezing after the ingestion of nuts. He has been avoiding them for many years but recently whilst out with his friends ate a curry and within a few minutes began to feel unwell. He vomited and had diarrhoea, and had to leave the restaurant. On his walk home he became increasingly wheezy and required his salbutamol inhaler. His friend gave him some antihistamines at his house. Gradually his symptoms eased. He has a history of asthma but has not attended your asthma clinic for many years despite numerous appointments.
