Case 15: An Asthmatic Patient with Breathlessness
CASE
A 26‐year‐old woman with known asthma has become suddenly breathless. She has seen her dentist earlier in the day for toothache and been given a course of amoxicillin which she has previously tolerated without any problems. Twenty minutes after taking a single dose of amoxicillin she developed a rash, and become suddenly short of breath. She had difficulty swallowing because of the sensation of a lump in her throat. She called 999 as she felt so unwell and on arrival at A&E was found to have a widespread urticarial rash. Her heart rate was 132 beats/min and her BP was 88/56 mmHg.
