Case 16: An Elderly Patient with Generalized Skin Blisters
CASE
An 88‐year‐old man, resident in a nursing home, presents with a 6‐week history of generalized skin blisters. His past medical history includes a previous cerebrovascular accident (CVA). He is on aspirin. On examination, he is pyrexial (temperature 38°C), tachycardic (pulse of 100 beats/min, regular) and he is noted to have tense blisters (about 8) and scattered urticated plaques on his trunk and limbs. The blisters are on an erythematous base. On his thighs and back, he has ulcerated areas, the sites of previous intact blisters, now exudating pus. He has no mucosal blisters.
