Case 6: A Patient with Fatigue and Aching Joints
CASE
A 38‐year‐old female has noticed recently that she is increasingly fatigued. Additionally she has some pains and aches in her joints and a particularly painful right wrist which she thinks has been swollen on a few occasions over the last year. She presents to her GP who notes that she may be depressed, as she has had difficulty conceiving and has recently been referred for specialist advice. She complains of fatigue, lassitude, generalized pain in both muscles and joints and poor ability to concentrate. Her sister has systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and she is concerned that she may be developing it too. There is little to find on examination except a mild swelling of her right wrist.
