Case 3: A Patient with Osteoarthritis in One Hip
CASE
A 65‐year‐old woman is admitted via A&E following a slip on a loose carpet at her home. She is an otherwise healthy 65‐year‐old who is troubled by osteoarthritis of her left hip, the pain of which requires NSAID therapy intermittently. Her medical history is notable only for the birth of three healthy daughters, the eldest of whom is now 32 years old. She lives with her older sister, her husband having died some years ago. Examination reveals her to have a dinner fork deformity at the right wrist, which is tender and bruised. She has an exaggerated thoracic spinal curvature and is tender over her mid thoracic region. Examination is otherwise normal.
