Case 6: A Patient Who Sees Flashes of Light in One Eye
CASE
A myopic (short‐sighted) 21‐year‐old medical student presented to Eye Casualty on Monday morning. She complained of seeing flashes of light (photopsia) in the temporal part of her left eye for the last few days. They were becoming more frequent and yesterday afternoon, she became aware of lots of small black ‘floaty bits’ ‘like flies’ in her vision in the left eye and a greyish shadow, which didn't really seem to move and was in the lower part of her vision.
She mentioned falling off her bicycle on Friday night but said she was not hurt in the incident, and she denied any headache. She said that these flashes of light were different to those which accompanied her occasional migraines.
